Administered by the Office of Youth Services, S.O.A.R delivers services to children and families from the community. The purpose of the program is to encourage community participation by stressing the importance of providing a safe environment, which is alcohol, tobacco, and drug free. S.O.A.R also emphasizes the importance of educational achievement, recreational activities and counseling for youth ages 6-14 and their families.
The S.O.A.R program has been serving the residents of Elizabeth with its after school programs and summer camps since 1996. Both the fall and summer programs are located in Nicholas Murray Butler School No. 23. The ongoing mission is to help youth within the city to reach their limitless potential through tutoring, various club activities, theatre arts, recreation, nutrition workshops, and much more.
S.O.A.R strives to maintain a well-rounded program that meets the needs of today’s young people. It combines tutoring, homework assistance, recreation, arts & crafts and tons of fun! Additionally, it inspires strong minds by making learning fun with classrooms that move.
The Parent Organization is an important external component and the backbone of the S.O.A.R program. It is S.O.A.R’s belief that healthy children come from healthy families. The program has produced outstanding citizens throughout the years and looks forward to servicing both youth and parents. The Parent Organization meets twice a month and hosts their own special events. All parents are encouraged to join.
